See the fun, excitement, learning, and striving for excellence that students of Huron String School experience. Each year HSS students play in a variety of venues, have fun at an annual "Spooky Group", and display their excellence in concerts and recitals throughout Huron County, Ontario. Using Suzuki's method and philosophy gives the students self-discipline, confidence, and a high level of skill on their instrument.

Celebrating 25 years of Excellence
Solo recitals, concerts, and a performance at Canada's Wonderland by our Orchestra make up our 09 Gallery so far. We celebrated 25 years of Huron String School's existence and dedication to excellence at our June concert, the highlight of which was the performance of a work composed for the occasion by Graham Kidd, a composer living in Guelph. The work is entitled "Twinkle Twinkle Huron Stars" and it has parts for everyone in the school, from the most advanced to the least advanced students. It was a thrill for the students to have the composer in attendance at the concert, and he autographed a souvenir copy of the music for each individual person in HSS. The day of the concert was beautiful and sunny, but quite chilly, though the warmth of the company and the excellence of the performances more than made up for it!

From the Heart
2008 was a great year for Huron String School! We had some incredible performances from all of our students, and enjoyed some wonderful special events as well. In June we had our annual Concert in Harbour Park, then we followed it with a "Classical Arts Coffeehouse" at the Livery, which included students from Melanie April's "Contemporary Steps" Ballet school, along with Drama students from Shannon Scott's "Serious Fun" Theatre Company, and other musical guests from the community. It was a truly spectacular event, with high levels of musicianship and artistry all around. In Sept, we welcomed some guest teachers who taught at our Workshop, and the Orchestra again played for the residents of Goderich Place Retirement Home. These, along with some candid shots from the studio and group lessons at the MacKay Centre make up our 2008 album.

Performing with Joy
Performing with JoyOur second album incorporates pictures from our incredible "Sensei of Oz" production in December, 2007, plus Christmas performances for area seniors at a MacKay Centre luncheon, and at Goderich Place retirement home. The Orchestra followed up their performance at Goderich Place with a bowling party, some pictures of which are also included here. A Touch of Excellence
A Touch of ExcellenceOur first album covers Sept/Oct 2007, and includes "Spooky Group", a group class of senior students, and a couple of students graduating to real violins after starting with cardboard violins. You can also see some students displaying their excellent postures, which they have worked very hard to achieve, and demonstrate their joy in playing. The album can be accessed by clicking on the picture to the left, or on this link "A Touch of Excellence". Stay "tuned" for the next album, which will come very soon!
